Emerson Wild takes on... THE YONKERS DEVIL!

Happy October everyone!

We're incredibly excited and pleased to announce that, even before it's official series release onto the interwebs, Emerson Wild is now part of it's first ever series cross-over! Brian Clevinger and Scott Wegener, the amazing folks who create, write & draw the hit indy comic series "Atomic Robo", have thrown Emerson into a monsterlicious online exclusive adventure with their title character - Robo. For those of you who don't know, Clevinger is also the co-writer of Emerson Wild.

If you want to check out this mini-comic series, you can look forward to the staggered release of all the pages in the next few days. Fortunately for you, the first four are already out and ready for your consumption!

"Emerson" Visits the DGA New Media Panel!

Hey, everyone - Zack here. Last night I was with our producer seeing a panel at the Director's Guild of America (DGA) here in Hollywood. Exciting stuff! It was a 50 person invite-only panel on "New Media" and I had the pleasure of sitting in and being part of it all. We talked about what exactly "New Media" is and afterward I had a chance to see and chat with one of our favorite web personalities, Felicia Day (The Guild, Dr. Horrible's Sing-A-Long Blog). I've already met and worked with her on her show, The Guild. You can see me as an extra at the end of season 2. I even have a line!

Felicia talked a lot about how she got to where she is now and answered a few questions from the audience. She very gracefully helped explain this beast we are all attempt to figure out - the "web series". You did great, Felicia!

Other Awesome Webseries: The Mercury Men

We here at Emerson Wild: Monster Hunter love web shows. I'd like to hope that's obvious, since we're creating one ourselves. So, here on the Monster Hunter Manual, we're going to talk about a few of our favorite web series and we hope you will check them out as well.

Now, some people might say "But team EW:MH, these other web shows are your competition! You shouldn't be talking about them and promoting them!" And that's where these commenters are wrong. With the wonderful power of the internet, you can watch these shows any time you want. The old-style competition between shows, such as on television, only works when competing for a time slot. With sites like Hulu and such, that's been all but eliminated anyway. If all web shows just promoted each other, it wouldn't be a COMPetition, but rather a COMPlementary system. (For a much more detailed version of this last paragraph, check out this insightful Tubefilter article.)

Fist off, The Mercury Men!

This is one we've been looking forward to for a long while now. It's got everything an awesome scifi web series (sorry, web serial) could ever ask for. A neo-noir, black and white 60's feel, cool alien effects, and awesome guns.

The story is about Edward Borman and his crazy adventure in stopping a bunch of Mercury Men (literally, they're men from the planet Mercury) from using their doomsday device named the Gravity Engine. And with the help of a daring aerospace engineer and his awesome gun, the LumiƩre, Edward will have to overcome being a lowly government office drone to a hero.

At the moment, they only have a trailer online to watch, but it's more then enough to get you into the action and get psyched for the show. With such an original idea for a web series, we're really looking forward to when they start releasing episodes. As you can tell, their website design has definitely inspired our team. Keep up the awesome work, Mercury Men Pictures!

On a side note, coming up soon we're going to be start doing some interviews with various cast and crew about EW:MH. Our first one coming up is with Vincent Guastini, our creature effects creator. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask in the comment section and we'll be sure to try and add them to the interview!

That's What A Monster Hunter's Gear Is For...

Ghostbusters and proton packs. Men in Black and neuralizers. Hell Boy and the Good Samaritan - these are among some of the most iconic gear pieces in all of film history. When we set out to create the world EW:MH, we were very aware of how important it is to establish Emerson through the monster hunting gear he uses. When you're writing for a story like this one, you have all sorts of fun opportunities to stretch the supernatural, technological and creative limits of equipment.

Goggles Concept Art - July 7th, 2009

We look at Emerson's way of cultivating gear very much in the same way we look at our own prop creation. Borrowed, stolen, manufactured or duct taped together in some homegrown way. Fortunately for us, we have one highly motivated a prop master.

Zack has been responsible for the creation, cultivation and design for most of the gear we've seen Emerson carry to date. Most of it is usually pieced together using all sorts of crazy materials ranging from welding goggles, .99 cent store reading lights, to old pepper shakers filled with Mountain Dew. We're looking forward to showing you some of this stuff in action. Or inaction, depending on how Emerson wields it.

The First Emerson Wild Concept Drawing - June '09

For this blog, we'd like to reach out you in our comments section and ask: What sort of gear do YOU see a monster hunter carrying? What sort of sprays, snares and satchels would YOU want on your own monster hunter gear package?

Let us know! We'll be watching for ideas and might throw one of your suggestions into the series.
